Started with eye banking in 1968 having eye banks in different hospitals all over Pakistan, our own PEBS Hospital was inaugurated in 1993 offering eye surgeries. We have served over 7.1 million patients, performed 2,500+ surgeries annually. Today, PEBS has grown into a multi-specialty healthcare institution offering dental services, free dialysis, cancer surgery, and cardiac & diabetic care, mostly free of cost for those who cannot afford.
Recognising the needs of the underserved population in North Karachi, the hospital expanded to include a Dental & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit, catering to thousands of individuals in the area.
The Department of Radiology & Diagnostic Laboratory opened in 2012, providing imaging, pathology, and diagnostic services to support PEBS's expanding clinical operations.
The Free Dialysis Unit marked a significant step in supporting patients with kidney failure, providing up to 2,400 dialysis treatments annually, completely free of cost. The unit was inaugurated in 2021 with the generous support of Mr. Sohail Yasin Suleman, Patron PEBS.
In March 2023, PEBS took a groundbreaking step by establishing the Free Oral Cancer Surgery Unit, addressing oral cancer, the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men in Pakistan, largely driven by the widespread consumption of pan, gutka, niswar, mawa, and chalia. The department was inaugurated with the support of several Founding Donors, including Mr. Islam Salim, Patron PEBS, along with valued corporate partners. To date, over 440 successful surgeries have been performed, providing life-saving treatment without any financial burden on patients.
PEBS initiated a Free Breast Cancer Unit in 2024, with Mammogram and Ultrasound, and then free breast cancer surgeries commenced in 2025; donated by Cowasjee Foundation. This initiative aims to combat the rising number of breast cancer cases in Pakistan, ensuring access to early detection and free treatment.
In collaboration with the Women's Team of Los Angeles, USA, PEBS launched the Gift of Vision Programme in 2023, delivering free cataract surgeries in underserved communities. In its first year, the programme carried out 5,200 free surgeries across Sindh, Balochistan, and Punjab, alongside providing free cardiac and diabetes checkups, lab tests, medicines, food aid, wheelchairs, and slippers. Over the past two years, the initiative has expanded significantly, with nearly 10,000+ cataract surgeries performed to date, while continuing to organize regular medical camps in remote areas of Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan, ensuring sustained access to essential healthcare services.
PEBS runs a successful Community Outreach Programme including School Eye Clinics, teacher training for eye screening, awareness seminars, and lectures. The programme has reached over 60,000 children and trained more than 3,500 teachers to conduct eye checks across Pakistan.
