Pakistan Eye Bank Society (PEBS) was founded in 1968 beneath a banyan tree by visionary pioneers who believed that sight is a basic human right. What started as a corneal donation initiative has grown into Pakistan's premier charitable healthcare institution.
PEBS Hospital started functioning in 1993, transforming from a single-focus charity into a multi-specialty healthcare facility. Today, we offer eye care, dental services, free dialysis, oral cancer surgery, breast cancer treatment, and cardiac consultations — mostly free of cost for those who cannot afford.

The movement for eye donation starts in Karachi, laying the groundwork for what would become Pakistan's first organized corneal donation initiative.
The first cornea grafting campaign is launched, marking the birth of organized corneal transplant services in Pakistan.
Pakistan Eye Bank Society (PEBS) is formally established in 1973 and registered as a Society in 1976 to work on a national basis.
Eye Donation Organizations established in Rawalpindi (REDO), Peshawar, Lahore (Data Darbar Eyes Hospital), and Baluchistan — each with Corneal Grafting Weeks, creating Pakistan's first comprehensive eye-care network across all four provinces.
Construction of PEBS Hospital commences in 1983. After a decade of building, PEBS Hospital opens its doors in 1993, transforming the society from a donation movement into a full-fledged healthcare facility.
Eye operations begin in 1995. The Dental & Maxillofacial department launches in 2006, marking PEBS's expansion beyond ophthalmology into multi-specialty care.
The Ardeshir Cowasjee Department of Radiology & Diagnostic Laboratory opens in 2012. In 2019, a state-of-the-art PEBS Eye Bank and Cornea Lab is inaugurated.
The Cardiac & Diabetes Unit opens in 2020, followed by the establishment of a Free Dialysis Unit in 2021 — extending PEBS's mission to chronic disease management.
Oral Cancer Surgery Unit starts in 2023, providing free head & neck oncology services. The Breast Cancer Surgery Unit follows in 2024, making PEBS a comprehensive cancer care provider for the underserved.
